In February, the semi-finals of the Enactus UK national competition was hosted at The Dixon. Various teams of students from across the UK were challenged by Dominus Real Estate to demonstrate how their businesses could play a powerful role in educating the next generation of young people about the importance of waste reduction, sustainability, and how to increase awareness of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The competition was organised and run by international enterprise charity, Enactus UK. Founded in 2001, Enactus works with schools and universities to develop a national network of socially minded young leaders who can transform communities and society through real life social action and environmentally responsible enterprise.

On April the 8th, Enactus UK hosted a virtual National Competition to crown the UK’s 2020 National Champion in which Dominus Real Estate Chairmain, Sukhpal Ahluwalia and Director, Jay Ahluwalia both supported via an online judging panel. Both were impressed by the level of professionalism, innovative and creative ideas each of the teams submitted.

We would like to wish huge congratulations to the University of Nottingham who were crowned Enactus UK 2020 champions! Enactus Nottingham won the competition after showcasing two of their inspirational social enterprises; Foodprint, a social supermarket in Nottingham, tackling food poverty and food waste in their local community through supplying food 60% cheaper than supermarkets and redistributing free food to local charities and school breakfast clubs. Their International project in Uganda – Nutrigreens, uses the power of innovation to combat malnutrition in Ugandan school children. The team used entrepreneurial leadership to design a vertical farming system and taught local farmers how to grow microgreens sustainably.

The winning projects of the sponsored Individual Topic Competitions were also announced which amounted to over £66,000 of grant funding awarded by Enactus UK to university teams on behalf of its corporate partners.

Enactus Nottingham will now go on to represent Enactus UK in the 2020 Enactus World Cup in Utrecht, The Netherlands on the 8th-10th September and we wish the team every success!
